Looking for ways to add some passive income streams to your design business in 2019? I will be explaining 3 Ways to Make Passive Income as a Graphic or Web Designer. Passive income is the best kind of income. It is a way you can make money even when you are off the clock. It is an integral part of any businesses growth. There are opportunities everywhere if you know where to look. These examples are specific to graphic and web design businesses they can be applied to any business in some capacity.

A Repeatable Design

Several years ago my wife was on Pinterest and showed me these really cool vintage laundry room doors people were creating. One day my wife asked me to make one for our own kitchen. So, I decided to customize the artwork on the door to have a design with our names on it. Once I completed the door my wife shared it on Pinterest via her website www.dreamsbiggerthanme.com and it has been repined over 5,000 times since. We never expected it to become such a hit. But when it did my wife had the bright idea to tell people I could provide the same artwork for their laundry room doors but place their names in it. Now I will admit this is not totally passive because it takes me about 5 minutes to alter the original design with custom names and I provide a digital file. So far I make about $300-$500 per year on this for very little time invested.

Affiliate Marketing

This is a great way to make passive income as a web designer. When I get a new client for web design they often need to purchase hosting for their website and they usually rely on my advice for setting that up. My go to web hosting company is Bluehost due to their pricing and 24/7 support. One day I wondered if Bluehost offered an affiliate program so I looked it up and THEY DID!!! It was free and easy to sign up and had the potential to earn $65 per new user I sign up for their service. This is free money that I missed out on for countless clients but as of last year signing up just 10 clients netted me $650 of passive income that I didn’t have to lift a finger to earn.

Dropshipping

This is another great way to make passive side income with just a little time invested up front. Use your graphic design skills to make a hip and modern t-shirt design and connect with a popular drop shipper such as Printful to sell the design on T-shirts, mugs, hats, and hoodies without having to order any inventory. These companies will handle all the orders, shipping, and inventory for you for a cut of the profits. The key to this is coming up with a great niche design. That is a great opportunity to make some passive income and let the drop shipper do all the heavy lifting. Selling a shirt for $20 can on give you a $5-$8 profit on average. Selling just 100 shirts in a year to a niche market could bring in $500 of passive income easily. I know these ideas can help you to add more passive income streams for your business.
